Harijana Will No Longer Be Used In Caste Certificate

The Word Harijana Will No Longer Be Used In Caste Certificate : The word “Harijan” will be removed from government institutions, educational institutions and government communications. Instructions have been issued to not use the word “Harijan” in relation to caste certificates and Scheduled Castes. A letter in this regard has been issued by the SC/ST Development Department. Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and Commissioner-cum-Secretaries have been instructed that the word ‘Harijan’ will not appear in any government communication, record, transaction, caste certificate, publication, departmental name or any other use.

Harijana word Will No Longer Be Used

As per Article 341 of the Constitution of India, only the constitutional term ‘Scheduled Caste’ shall be used to refer to persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes. It has been directed to use ‘Scheduled Caste’ instead of ‘Harijan’. There is also a direction to mention ‘Scheduled Caste’ in the record sheets. This direction shall be strictly followed in all government offices. The authorities have also been directed to inform the employees about this change and update the existing documents and records accordingly.
