According to the National Seismological Center, this earthquake occurred on Friday at 03:16 am. The magnitude of this earthquake was measured at 4.9 on the Richter scale. However, there is no news of any kind of damage so far. But people have become terrified due to the earth shaking twice in 24 hours.
An earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck on Thursday
Earlier on Thursday, an earthquake of 6.2 magnitude had occurred. Its epicenter was located 14 km east of Jalalabad and at a depth of 10 km. This was the second major earthquake to hit Afghanistan in recent times.
Last week, there were more than 2200 deaths in the earthquake
Last week, another powerful earthquake struck Afghanistan, shaking many parts of the country. This earthquake occurred last Sunday night, whose magnitude was recorded at 6.0 on the Richter scale. This earthquake caused devastation in many provinces. According to a spokesperson of the Taliban government, the death of more than 2200 people has been confirmed so far.
The earthquake on August 31 caused massive destruction
Hundreds of houses were destroyed in this terrible earthquake that struck Afghanistan on August 31. Hundreds of bodies have been recovered from the rubble. The most affected area was Kunar, where houses made of mud, unbaked bricks, and wood collapsed in villages located in river valleys. Relief and rescue operations are being hindered due to inaccessible terrain and a lack of resources.
Earthquakes are also occurring continuously in Pakistan
Apart from Afghanistan, neighboring country Pakistan is also not untouched by earthquake activities. On August 25, 2025, an earthquake of 4.3 magnitude hit the northern areas of Pakistan, the tremors of which were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. People came out of their homes due to fear. Pakistan is an earthquake-prone region due to its location at the junction of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. On August 19 and 20, tremors of 5.5 and 3.7 magnitude were also recorded there.
