According to local authorities, the incident occurred while the bus was en route on a remote stretch of road. Eyewitnesses reported that flames engulfed the vehicle within minutes, leaving no time for a rescue operation. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the fire had already caused severe damage.
National Leaders Express Grief
President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. Taking to social media platform X, she wrote,
“The news of the deaths of several people in a bus fire in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, is deeply distressing. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared his condolences via a post from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on X, stating:
“I am saddened by the loss of life and property in the accident in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families in this difficult time. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
The Prime Minister also announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The families of the deceased will receive an gratia of ₹2 lakh each, while the injured will be provided ₹50,000 each.
Chief Minister Visits Site, Assures Support
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma personally visited the accident site and took stock of the situation. Calling the incident “extremely heartbreaking,” he expressed his condolences on social media and assured that all necessary assistance would be provided.
“I express my deepest condolences to the citizens affected by this tragic accident. The state government stands with the bereaved families in this hour of grief,” the CM wrote.
He also directed officials to ensure that the injured received proper medical treatment and extended full support to the victims’ families.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Preliminary reports suggest a possible short circuit or engine malfunction, but confirmation is awaited.
This tragedy has cast a shadow of sorrow across the state, with citizens and leaders alike mourning the loss of innocent lives.
