Trump Threatens India Again With High Tariffs On Russian Oil Purchases: US President Donald Trump has once again threatened the imposition of tariffs on India. He has accused India of buying “large quantities” of oil from Russia amid the Russia-Ukraine war and threatened to increase tariffs on India.
In a social media post, Trump alleged, “India is not only buying huge amounts of Russian oil, but is also buying it cheaply and selling it on the open market at a huge profit.”
Trump said, “They don’t care how many people are dying in Ukraine at the hands of the Russian war machine. For this reason, I will significantly increase the tariffs that India pays to the United States.”
Though he did not clarify what would be the new tariff rate, Trump has made an unusual association between India’s Russia policy and the deaths in Ukraine for the first time.
The last time the United States put a tariff on India was a 25 percent tariff, which was supposed to come into force on August 1 but now will have a week’s delay in its enforcement. According to the latest injunctions, the tariff will be enforced after seven days.
