Trump to increase tariffs in 24 hours to impose new tariffs on pharma: again threatens India
Trump To Increase Tariffs In 24 Hours: Threat Of 250% tariff On Pharma: U.S. President Donald Trump has called India a bad trading partner and announced plans to further increase tariffs on Indian imports within 24 hours, following a 25% tariff imposed on August 1, 2025.
In a recent interview with CNBC, Trump laid out the track tariff idea. 1) “We’ll be putting an initially small tariff on pharmaceuticals, but in one year — one and-a-half years maximum — it’s going to go to 150% and then it’s going to go to 250% because we want pharmaceuticals made in our country.”
According to the news report, this held on socialized magistrates with their demand that major suppliers of medicines drastically cut costs or face any further, unspecified penalization.
Trump’s Allegations:
In a media interview, Trump claimed India imposes the highest tariffs globally and does little to facilitate U.S. trade. He also criticized India’s continued energy imports from Russia, saying it supports Russia’s war machinery.
India’s Response:
India condemned Trump’s accusations as unjust and unreasonable. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal pointed out U.S. imports of uranium and palladium from Russia, stating India, like any other country, will act based on its national interests.
Widening Diplomatic Gap:
India has maintained a firm stance despite growing U.S. pressure. Experts compare the tension to past diplomatic stand-offs, such as post-1998 nuclear tests and the 2013 Devyani Khobragade case.
Strengthening Ties with Russia:
India continues deepening its ties with Russia. President Putin is expected to visit New Delhi later this year. Ahead of this, NSA Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar are scheduled to visit Moscow for preparations.
