Vaishno Devi Landslide: Death Toll Rises To 31 After Rain Fury In Jammu Region: The death toll in the landslide on the track of Vaishno Devi Dham in Katra, Jammu, rose to 31 on Wednesday. The accident took place on Tuesday at 3 pm on the old track near Indraprastha Bhojanalaya, a short distance from Ardhkumari Temple. Till late last night, 7 people were reported dead, but the figure increased in the morning. Actually, the situation has worsened due to continuous heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir. 31 people have lost their lives and 23 people have been injured in the landslide on the Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra route in Katra. The Jammu-Katra highway has been closed due to debris accumulation and the falling of stones after landslides at many places. Due to heavy rains, Northern Railway canceled 22 trains and short-terminated 27 trains on Wednesday. These also include 9 trains running from the Vaishno Devi Base Camp.
The temple road turned into rubble
Yesterday, a large part of the road to the temple on Trikuta hill was reduced to rubble. Rescue operations are underway. There is a possibility that more people may be trapped under the rubble. Continuous rain has caused floods and landslides in Jammu and Kashmir. Bridges collapsed in Jammu, and power lines and mobile towers were severely damaged. On Tuesday, Jammu received 22 cm of rain in 6 hours between 11.30 am and 5.30 pm.
3500 people saved
As of Tuesday, more than 3,500 people have been evacuated to safer places due to floods and waterlogging caused by incessant rains. Relief operations are being carried out by joint teams of the district administration, JK Police, NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army, and local volunteers. The affected people are being provided food, clean water, and medical assistance in temporary shelters.
Telecom blackout
However, there has been a telecom blackout in many parts of the Union Territory, leaving lakhs of people out of contact. The administration is focusing on evacuating people from high-risk areas to safer places.

Currently, Jammu and the surrounding areas are experiencing strong thunderstorms and heavy rains. The most affected areas are Jammu city, RS Pura, Samba, Akhnoor, Nagrota, Kot Bhalwal, Bishnah, Vijaypur, Purmandal, Kathua, and Udhampur. On the other hand, light rain is occurring in Reasi, Ramban, Doda, Billawar, Katra, Ramnagar, Hiranagar, Gul, and Banihal.
