36-hour curfew in Cuttack, Police Commissioner warns of strict action
Violence in Cuttack: 36-Hour Curfew Imposed in 13 Areas, Internet Suspended: A 36-hour curfew has been imposed in 13 areas of Cuttack city following violent clashes that left 25 people, including 8 police personnel, injured. The curfew began at 10 PM on October 5 and will remain in effect until 10 AM tomorrow, October 7. The decision was taken by the district administration to bring the situation under control and prevent further escalation of tension.
The curfew is currently in force in the following areas: Darghabazar, Mangalbagh, Cantonment Police Station area, Purighat Police Station, Lalbagh, Bidanasi, Markatnagar, CDA Phase-2, Malgodam, Badambadi, Jagatpur, and 40 mouzas. While strict restrictions are in place, movement for essential goods and access to educational institutions has been exempted from the curfew orders.
Despite the curfew, all bus services from the Badambadi area continue to operate. Police have set up barricades across various parts of the city and are conducting strict vehicle checks.
In a statement, Police Commissioner S. Devdutt Singh confirmed that 25 people were injured during the clashes between protesters and the police. He further warned that those involved in the violence will face the strictest legal action. “Agitators will not be tolerated,” he said.
To prevent the spread of misinformation and unrest, internet services and access to social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat have been restricted in Cuttack for 24 hours. These restrictions will remain in effect until 7 PM today.
A massive deployment of 60 platoons of police force has been mobilized throughout the city to maintain peace and order. The Cuttack Commissionerate Police has appealed to residents to stay calm and cooperate with the authorities.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged citizens to avoid spreading rumors and rely only on official sources for updates.
