Not only this, the purpose behind chanting Shiv is that God should give peace to the soul of the dead person. Shiv means salvation, hence, it is considered good to take the name of Shiv on seeing the dead body.

Seeing a funeral procession, people passing by stop for a while and pray to God. This is a major rule of Hinduism, according to which, after seeing a funeral procession, we should pray for the peace of the dead soul. This quiet peace is for the departed soul.
Chanting the name of Ram, when seeing Funeral Procession:
If you see anyone’s procession, you should keep chanting the name of Ram. The Shri Ramcharit Manas is of the view that Lord Shiva showers great grace whenever Ram’s name is chanted. It is mentioned in the Shiv Puran that after death, the soul merges with the Supreme Soul i.e., Lord Shiva; therefore, if you see a funeral procession, you should chant the name of Ram, which brings blessings of Lord Shiva.
The horn must not be blown:
Whenever we see a funeral procession, we should remain silent. If we are in a car or bike, we should not blow the horn at such times. This shows our respect and reverence for the dead person.
According to the scholars of astrology, seeing any funeral procession is very auspicious. You must have heard from the elders in your house that if you see a dead body while going on the road, then it is a sign that your day will be auspicious.
