Why Is Savitri Vrata Celebrated In India: Every year, married women observe the Savitri Vrata on the new moon day of the Jyeshtha month. On this day, women fast for the long life of their husbands. It is believed that by observing the fast, women can bring good luck and prosperity to their husbands. Vat Savitri Puja is performed by married women. In this, women worship the Bat or Banyan tree. Importance of the Banyan Tree in Savitri:

Worshipping the Banyan tree has great importance in Hinduism. According to religious beliefs, the trinity of Hindu mythology, Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheswar, are present in the Banyan tree. The roots of the tree represent Brahma. The trunk of the Banyan tree represents Vishnu, and Lord Shiva represents the upper part of the Banyan tree. It is believed that worshipping under this holy tree fulfils all the wishes of the devotees. According to mythological beliefs, just as Savitri brought back her husband Satyavan from Yamraj with her devotion, similarly, married women who observe this auspicious fast are blessed with a happy married life.

How is the Savitri Vrata Puja performed?

On this day, after taking a bath early in the morning, married women dress up as brides, put sindoor on their foreheads. After this, rice and flowers are offered to the Vat Vriksha or Banyan tree. After this, yellow or red coloured threads are tied around the trunk of the tree, sindoor or vermilion is sprinkled on it, and they circumambulate the tree while praying. Goddess Savitri is also worshipped. After this, women offer bhog and complete their fast.
