Why Lord Vishnu Varaha Avatar Worshipped ? In the Sanatan tradition, Lord Vishnu is considered the protector of the world. According to Hindu belief, Lord Vishnu has taken many incarnations to protect the world and the creatures living in it. Lord Varaha is considered to be the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu took this incarnation to kill the demon named Hiranyaksha. Legend of Varaha Avatar
According to Hindu belief, a demon named Hiranyaksha hid the entire earth under water. Then Lord Vishnu took the form of Varah (boar) to save the submerged earth and to end the evil forces residing on it. It is believed that Lord Varah first fought with the demon Hiranyaksha and killed him and then took the earth out of the water with his teeth and handed it over to the Supreme Lord Brahma. The day Lord Varah killed Hiranyaksha was the third day of the Shukla Paksha of the month of Bhadrapada.

Method of worship of Lord Varah
To worship the Varaha incarnation of Shri Hari, after taking bath and meditation, the devotee should place his idol or picture on a stool in the northeast corner covered with a yellow cloth. After this, after purifying him with Gangajal, he should be worshipped with full rituals using fruits, flowers, sweets, roli, sandalwood, incense sticks, etc. After the worship, recite the story of the incarnation of Lord Varaha and then chant the mantra associated with this divine incarnation of Shri Hari, ‘Om Namo Bhagwate Varaharupay Bhubhuvarva: Swa: Syatpate Bhupatitvam Dehyetaddapay Swaha’ as much as possible.
Religious significance of worshiping Lord Varaha
According to Hindu belief, just as Lord Varah protected the submerged earth by taking it out of water, in the same way he saves his devotees from all troubles and provides them happiness especially land and property etc. A person who worships Lord Varah attains infinite virtue.
