Richa Ghosh Became DSP

ndia recently made history by winning the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. This was the Indian women’s team’s first ICC trophy. Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh, part of the World Cup-winning team, has been promoted from DSP to honorary Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in West Bengal. The state government also honored her with the prestigious Banga Bhushan Award. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) organized a grand felicitation ceremony for Richa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, which was attended by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

22-year-old Richa was presented with the Golden Bat at the felicitation ceremony held on Saturday. She also received a cheque of Rs 34 lakh. She had scored 34 runs in 24 balls in the final against South Africa, which included three fours and two sixes. India won the title match by 52 runs after Scoring 298/7. The felicitation ceremony began with a traditional uttariya, flowers and sweets, after which CM Mamata handed over the Golden Bat, Bang Bhushan, a gold chain and DSP appointment letter to Richa.
Mamata said in her address, “Richa will conquer the world again and again with love. Mental strength is the greatest power. You must keep working hard.
overcome difficulties, and reach your goals. You have to fight, perform, play, and win. Meanwhile, West Bengal wrote on social media platforms, “DSP Richa Ghosh, heartiest congratulations. Richa, the pride of Bengal, has now become a Deputy Superintendent of Police. The West Bengal government has appointed Richa, a key member of the World Cup-winning Indian team, to the post of DSP in the police.”
Richa, one of the architects of India’s historic title win, scored 235 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 133.52 in the tournament. She was the fifth highest run-scorer for India in the tournament. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is the president of CAB. Ganguly also praised Richa and expressed hope that she would one day become the captain of the Indian team. He said, “We want Richa to reach the heights like Jhulan Goswami one day. We hope that one day we will stand here and say that Richa is the captain of India.” Veteran fast bowler Jhulan Goswami also attended the ceremony.
