YouTube Will Invest 850 Crores In India – Content platform giant YouTube has invested 210 billion, or Rs 21,000 crore, in India’s creator economy in the last 3 years. It will invest another 850 crore in the next 2 years. Google-owned YouTube CEO Neel Mohan made this promise during his speech at the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit 2025 (WAVES) held in Mumbai on Friday. Mohan, in his speech, highlighted India’s emergence as a ‘creator nation.’ He noted that over 100 million channels uploaded content in India last year, while over 15,000 channels crossed 1 million subscribers. He also noted that content created in India received 45 billion hours of viewing time from global audiences last year.

He added, “YouTube’s ability to connect a creator from anywhere with an audience everywhere has made it a powerful engine of cultural export or cultural dissemination, and some countries like India have used it effectively.”

21 thousand crores investment in 3 years

During his speech, Neel Mohan said that the platform has provided Rs 21,000 crore to Indian creators, artists and media houses in the last 3 years. He has promised to invest another Rs 850 crore in the next 2 years to support Indian creators.

Another 850 crore investment

According to Mohan, the Rs 850 crore investment will expand YouTube’s infrastructure and partnerships in India and help emerging creators professionalize their content and grow their businesses. Not only that, they will also be able to reach their unique content globally. It will also showcase YouTube’s support for India’s growing digital landscape and the potential to drive economic growth through creative entrepreneurship.

Government support for the creative economy

According to some reports, India’s creative economy has achieved an annual growth rate of 18 percent. By 2026, it will reach 3400 crores. In 2023, it was 1900 crores. It is worth noting that in March last year, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Baishnab also announced a fund of 1 billion dollars for India’s creative economy along with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies in Mumbai.
