Mingma Sherpa, the organiser of the expedition and president of Seven Summit Treks, said that Kami Rita (55 years old) reached the summit of the 8,849-meter-high peak at around 4 am in normal weather. This time, he was guiding the Everest expedition team of the Indian Army’s Adventure Wing, which was led by Lieutenant Colonel Manoj Joshi.
“This new achievement cements his position as the person who has climbed the world’s highest peak the most number of times, a record that no one has ever come close to,” Mingma Sherpa was quoted as saying by the Kathmandu Post.
Mingma Sherpa further said that Kami Rita is safe and stable after reaching the peak. He has started descending from Nite and is now returning to the base camp. As always, Kami has once again proven his unmatched skills and professional experience. We are extremely proud of his great achievement, and the legacy he is creating is a matter of pride for us.
In the last two years, He has climbed Mount Everest twice in every season. With this, the number of his successful climbs has reached 30. Chhang Dawa Sherpa, expedition director of Seven Summit Treks, said that he had a deep passion for mountaineering from a young age, and he has been climbing mountains continuously for more than two decades.
Who is Kami Rita?
Born in the Solukhumbu region, a stronghold of the Sherpa community, He began his mountaineering journey in 1992. He joined the expedition group going to Everest as a support staff. He first climbed Everest in 1994. Since then, he has been returning to the world’s highest peak almost every year.
Kami Rita’s father was one of the first Sherpa mountain guides. Chhang Dawa Sherpa, expedition director of Seven Summit Treks, said Kami developed a deep passion for climbing at a young age. He has been climbing peaks for more than two decades now.
Over the years, he has become one of the most renowned Sherpa guides.According to Chhang Dawa, from 1994 to 2025, Kami Rita has ascended Lhotse and K2 thrice each, Manaslu thrice, and Cho Oyu eight times.Pasang Dawa, a fellow Sherpa guide, remains Kami Rita’s fiercest competitor, having bagged 29 ascents of Mount Everest. In 1953, Nepali Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand’s Edmund Hillary became the first people ever to climb Everest.
