Himachal Flash Floods, Landslides: Death Toll Rises Above 70: Amidst the red alert of the Meteorological Department, a cloudburst occurred at two places in Chamba and one in Mandi on Sunday. Flood-like conditions prevailed in Una. A cloudburst occurred in Kangela Nala of Panchayat Bagheigadh and Bandha Nala of Tikrigarh Panchayat in Churah of Chamba on Sunday morning.
There was a flood in Kortang village of Silhbudhani Panchayat of Mandi’s Chauharghati due to a cloudburst at midnight on Saturday, causing devastation in the village. Five bridges were washed away due to a cloudburst in both districts. The bridge built on Kangela Nala on the Nakrod-Chanju road was washed away due to a cloudburst in Tikrigarh Panchayat of Chamba, and an alternative route was made here late in the evening.
People ran away after hearing the rumbling of water and stones
Four footbridges and a culvert of the Public Works Department were washed away in the flood in Kortang village of Mandi (Mandi Disaster) district. Fertile land was washed away in Silh, Budhani, and Kortang. People ran away to save their lives after hearing the sound of water and stones at midnight. Six houses are in danger here. Many roads were blocked due to heavy rain in the Una district. Water entered people’s homes and schools.
45 workers got trapped in an industry in Nangal Salangdi due to waterlogging. The fire department and home guards rescued them. The petrol pump of Jhaleda village got submerged. Many industries in Gagret got flooded. This has caused losses worth crores of rupees.
78 people died in Flood
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in Chamba and Kullu on July 7, while an orange alert for very heavy rain has been issued in other districts except Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur. There is a warning of floods at many places. According to the Disaster Management Authority, so far, 78 people have died in the state, and many are missing.
Woman swept away in Barsar, body of teenage girl found in Sujanpur A woman from another state was swept away in the Shukra Khad of Barsar in Hamirpur. A truck loaded with ration got stuck in the Shukra Khad. The body of a 14 to 15 year old teenage girl was found in the Beas near village Bajahar near Sujanpur. It is suspected that the body could be of someone who was swept away from the Mandi.
243 roads still closed
243 roads closed in the state 243 roads are closed in the state due to rain and landslides. 183 roads are blocked in Mandi, 36 in Kullu, 12 in Kangra, 6 in Una, 4 in Chamba and 2 in Sirmaur. 182 transformers are damaged in Mandi, 41 in Una, 12 in Kinnaur and 3 each in Chamba and Kullu. 278 drinking water schemes are affected in the state.
