Women’s World Cup Final Rain Rules: Who Will Win The Trophy If India Vs South Africa Is Washed Out?

India and South Africa will face each other in the final of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 on Sunday at the D.Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

The tournament has been heavily affected by rain — including India’s semifinal clash against at Australia the same venue a few days ago which was interrupted by showers. With rain forecast in Navi Mumbai on matchday, here’s a look at the playing conditions and regulations that will come into effect if rain disrupts the final.

What Will Happen If It Rains In Women’s World Cup Final?
If the rain is significant and play is not possible today, there is a reserve day in place and the game will be completed on Monday. Notably, play will resume from the same point where it was stopped in case it rains. But the umpires will be keen to get the game done and dusted today itself, even if it means reducing overs. A minimum of 20 overs needs to be bowled to produce a result.

What If Rain Washes Out Women’s World Cup Final?
While the chances of a complete washout are low, if play is not possible in the final due to weather conditions, both India and South Africa will be declared joint winners. Meanwhile, the overcast weather also eases decision-making for the captains. The captain who wins the toss will be keen to bowl first for two reasons – the wet, gloomy weather will make the conditions tougher to bat, and the start-stop play won’t allow the batters to settle. If the overs are reduced, the chasing team will get benefit of the D/L method.
