Nation to Celebrate 150th Anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’ with Mass Singing by Students: Vande Mataram; this word and that is sufficient to create many emotions for you in the heart of an Indian. It is not simply the national song of India. India’s national song, Vande Mataram, will complete 150 years on November 7. In the 127th episode of his radio program “Mann Ki Baat,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Vande Mataram is not just a song but a symbol of India’s unity, patriotism, and pride.
PM Modi said that the moment we hear the words “Vande Mataram,” our hearts fill with emotions and energy. The song reminds every Indian of their love and duty toward Mother India. “In difficult times, chanting Vande Mataram gives 1.4 billion Indians the strength of unity,” the Prime Minister said.
He shared that Vande Mataram was written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay about 150 years ago to inspire Indians during the period of British rule. It was first sung by Rabindranath Tagore in 1896. The Prime Minister said the song’s spirit connects with India’s ancient belief of “Mata Bhoomih Putro Aham Prithviyah” — meaning, “The Earth is my mother, and I am her child.”
PM Modi urged people to take part in the upcoming 150th anniversary celebrations of Vande Mataram. He said, “Let us make the 150th year of Vande Mataram memorable. This song will always be our inspiration to build a prosperous and united India.” The Prime Minister also invited citizens to share their ideas and suggestions using the hashtag #VandeMataram150.
