Deepika Padukone Was Dropped From Kalki 2898 AD Sequel
In a surprising turn of events, Deepika Padukone has been officially dropped from Kalki 2898 AD Part 2. The actress, who played a central role in the first installment as ‘Sam 80’, was expected to return for the sequel. Her character was integral to the storyline, which centered around her giving birth to Kalki. While the first film was a major box office success, fans awaiting the sequel were stunned by the news of her exit.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Deepika had placed two key conditions before agreeing to the sequel — a 25% hike in her remuneration and a restricted seven-hour workday. The producers reportedly found this unworkable, especially given the VFX-heavy nature of the film, which demands long shooting hours. While they tried to accommodate her with luxury amenities, the negotiations fell through. Notably, lead actor Prabhas did not increase his fee for Part 2.
Adding to the complications, the report also mentions that Deepika’s entourage of 25 people required five-star accommodation and full hospitality — a cost the producers were unwilling to bear. Industry insiders suggest that while top stars often have high demands, producers are increasingly pushing back when those demands threaten to derail large-scale projects.
