Sugar will be distribute free of cost for 15 months
Delhi Government Big Announcement : At the beginning of the New Year, the Delhi government has decided to provide important relief to the poor and needy families. The cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved the distribution of free sugar under the Antyayoday Anna Yojana.
The decision will be implemented in Delhi from January 2026 to March 2027 and all AAY card holders will get this benefit. It has been decided to provide free sugar to eligible families for a total of 15 months. This government decision is being considered as a major New Year gift for Delhiites, especially the economically weaker sections, which will provide direct relief to lakhs of families.
During times of inflation, rising food prices directly impact the kitchens of poor families. Therefore, this decision to distribute free sugar will help meet daily needs.
The Chief Minister said that the welfare of the poor and helpless is the top priority of the Delhi Government. He clarified that the government’s objective is that no poor family should be deprived of basic necessities. Food security, social justice and equal opportunities are an integral part of the government’s policies. According to the Chief Minister, such a decision is a concrete step towards providing a dignified life to the weaker sections of the society.
Antyoday Anna Yojana is a flagship scheme of the Government of India, which aims to provide affordable food to the poorest of the poor. The scheme covers the helpless, elderly, disabled, landless labourers and extremely vulnerable families. Each AAY family is provided with 35 kg of food grains including wheat and rice every month. The scheme comes under the National Food Security Act and is an important means of ensuring food security in the country. The Delhi government’s decision to distribute free sugar will further enhance the benefits of the scheme, providing long-term security to lakhs of poor families.
