Girl Sets Herself Ablaze Outside FM College Over Alleged Harassment
FM College Student Attempt Suicide To Set Fire On Her Body , 90 Percent Burnt : In a shocking turn of events outside FM College in Balasore, a female student allegedly attempted suicide by setting herself on fire, citing harassment by a lecture . As per reports, the student was a second-year student of the Integrated B.Ed program in the college. She reportedly couldn’t bear the mistreatment by the Head of Department and set herself ablaze. She had also staged a protest alleging harassment.
Politics is now heating up over the incident of a student of Balasore FM Autonomous College attempting to take her own life. In this regard, the ruling party is facing the opposition. As politics is increasing, the opposition party is now seen taking to the streets over this. In this regard, the opposition party BJD has taken to the streets against the ruling party, demanding women’s safety. BJD has demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister. In this regard, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, the government has taken the Balasore incident seriously. I have gone to AIIMS and assessed the situation. A committee has been formed by the Higher Education Department to investigate the circumstances under which this incident took place. Action will be taken after the report comes.

The government is taking care to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future. Mohan Charan Majhi said that the government has decided to take proactive steps to prevent incidents of rape and sexual harassment in colleges and technical institutions. After going to AIIMS and meeting the victim, the Chief Minister responded and said, the condition of the FM College student is critical. Her treatment is going on. She is being treated like Delhi AIIMS. The next 24 hours are crucial. If necessary, she can be airlifted to Delhi AIIMS.

Balasore Fakir Mohan College student’s suicide attempt is being treated. The patient is struggling for life in the AIIMS burn ward. 95 percent of her body is burnt. The condition of the student is very critical. However, AIIMS Director Dr. Ashutosh Tithmar has informed that the next 24 hours are very crucial. Meanwhile, Health Minister Mukesh Mahalinga has gone to Bhubaneswar AIIMS and met the patient.
The accused lecturer, Sameer Sahoo, Head of the Education Department, has been detained at Sahadevkhunta police station for interrogation. Students and civil society groups are demanding an impartial investigation into the allegations, which include academic coercion, threats of failure, and unethical conduct.
Witnesses claim that the student had previously approached the principal’s office, and moments after returning, was seen ablaze in front of the college premises. Another student who attempted to help has also been hospitalised with serious injuries. Eyewitnesses have condemned the staff for showing “zero humanitarian response” during the incident, alleging that despite being present, none of the college personnel attempted to assist. The brother of the victim girl who attempted self-immolation stated that the Head of the Education Department demanded personal favours from his sister, threatening her with failure if she did not comply.
He claims she was mentally tortured and told outright that she wouldn’t pass unless she conceded. Fellow students corroborated this statement, alleging she was repeatedly harassed by the same lecturer. One peer revealed that her association with a student union led to targeted intimidation, further worsening the situation.
