Does wearing a helmet cause hair loss?
Helmet and Hair Loss: Causes, Prevention: Nowadays, the problem of hair fall has become common. Sometimes due to changing weather and sometimes due to unhealthy lifestyle, people are facing the problem of hair loss. At the same time, it is said that wearing a helmet also affects the hair. This weakens the hair, and the hair starts breaking.
These are some of the main reasons
- Wearing a tight helmet
Wearing a very tight helmet puts constant pressure on the scalp. This can lead to a disease called “traction alopecia”. In this, hair starts falling due to being pulled from some parts of the head. - Sweat and dirt
Wearing a helmet causes excessive sweating on the head. On the other hand, if we do not keep the helmet clean, then proper ventilation inside the helmet is not possible. Due to a lack of oxygen, fungal infection occurs in the hair, which is a reason for hair loss. - Dirty or non-washable padding
Some helmets are nonwashable, which causes dirt and dust to accumulate in their inner lining. This can irritate the scalp, leading to hair loss.
What do the experts say?
A dermatologist says that if your hair reaches your neck and you do not wash it properly, then sweat, dust, and dirt stick to it, which increases the risk of dandruff, bacterial infection, and fungal infection. If you keep your hair clean, then wearing a helmet does not cause hair fall. For this, you can apply a good hair gel, so that dust and dirt do not stick to the hair. For this, you can also use aloe vera gel.
Keep in mind that when you are wearing a helmet, do not apply oil to your hair. Also, when you are wearing a helmet, after taking it off, you can apply some rose water spray or even light water to your hair.
How to take care of your hair
The dermatologist further advised that, definitely use a helmet. This is very important for our safety. Just take care of your hair. For this, you can use two types of shampoos. Use one anti-dandruff and one normal shampoo on alternate days. In humid weather, when the hair sweats more, use anti-dandruff shampoo once a week and use normal shampoo on the remaining days.
What things should one take care of?
- The helmet should be loose or comfortable.
- Clean the helmet lining regularly.
- If you sweat a lot, you can wear a cotton scarf on your head, which will absorb the sweat.
- After removing the helmet, allow the hair to dry and the scalp to be exposed to air.
Some other causes of hair loss
Wearing a helmet is not the main reason for hair loss. Some other factors may be responsible for this. Such as:-
- Genetic problems.
- Lack of nutrition in the diet.
- Hormonal imbalance.
- Stress is also a major reason for hair fall.
- Having a scalp infection.
