How dangerous is ARDEX?
The full name of ARDEX is Research Department Explosive or Royal Demolition Explosive. It is considered one of the most dangerous explosives in the world. It was first developed in Germany during World War II. Its specialty is that even a small amount can cause such a violent explosion that an area shakes. Today, not only the military, but also terrorist organizations use ARDEX in their IED bombs as weapons of destruction.
How dangerous is an IED? An IED
stands for Improvised Explosive Device, a type of homemade bomb, which is usually made in an iron pipe, pressure cooker or any container. It is filled with explosives like ARDX, TNT or ammonium nitrate. ARDX is the most powerful of all because its explosive power is about 1.5 times higher. That is, if TNT damages an area up to 10 meters, then that ARDX can destroy an area up to 15 meters.
The power of ARDX
The most dangerous thing about ARDX is that even though it is stable, once it is activated, it is almost impossible to stop it. Even a small fire, a mobile trigger, a timer or a remote signal can cause it to explode. For this reason, adding ARDX to an IED increases its effect several times.
In typical IED terms, the ammonium nitrate or gelatin stick used in it causes limited damage, but when ARDEX is added to it, its intensity increases. The shockwave from an ARDEX blast can destroy the surrounding area, overturn vehicles, and cause tremors up to a kilometer away.
