Dhankhar 3rd vice president to quit mid-term

Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post with immediate effect, citing Article 67(a). He has become the third Vice President who decided to leave his post without completing his term.
In 1997, Vice President Krishan Kant died mid-term. He took oath as Vice President on 21 August 1997 and died during his tenure on 27 July 2002.
Apart from this, in 1974, Vice President B.D. Jatti resigned before the end of his term. However, he was playing the role of interim President.
Let us tell you that Jagdeep Dhankhar was sworn in as the 14th Vice President on 11 August 2022. He was the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha for the last three years. After the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, the election process will have to be completed again to fill the post of Vice President. After which, the country will get a new Vice President.
Who can become the Vice President of the country?
- It is mandatory to be a citizen of India.
- Must be at least 35 years of age.
- Any candidate who stands for the post of Vice President has to deposit a security amount of ₹15 thousand.
- At the same time, if 1/6 votes are not obtained during the election, then the security deposit is confiscated.
Who has the right to vote in the Vice Presidential election?
- Only the MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have the right to vote during the election of the Vice President.
- Nominated members of Rajya Sabha also have the right to vote in this election.
