Mark Carney to be sworn in as Canada’s new Prime Minister: The swearing-in ceremony of Canada’s new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, will take place today, on Friday, March 14. He will be sworn in as the 24th Prime Minister of Canada. This swearing-in ceremony will take place at 8:30 pm Indian time in the ballroom of Rideau Hall in the capital, Ottawa.

Apart from Carney, his cabinet members will also take an oath on Friday. He won the Liberal Party leader election on February 9. Carney got 85.9% of the votes. Mark Carney will replace Canada’s current Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.

After winning the election for party leader, Carney met Prime Minister Trudeau. There was a discussion between the two about handing over power. Trudeau announced his resignation from the post of Prime Minister in January. On Friday, Trudeau will go to the Governor General and officially submit his resignation.

Justin Trudeau gave his farewell speech as the Prime Minister of Canada at the Liberal Party Convention on February 10. After this, he picked up his chair and walked out of the Parliament.

Mark Carney is a banker and economist:

Mark Carney is an economist and former central banker. Carney was elected Governor of the Bank of Canada in 2008. Due to the steps he took to pull Canada out of recession, the Bank of England offered him the position of Governor in 2013.

In the 300-year history of the Bank of England, he was the first non-British citizen to receive this responsibility. He remained associated with it till 2020. The decisions taken during Brexit made him famous in Britain.

Carney is an opponent of Trump but avoids making statements:

Many voters feel that Carney’s economic ability and his balanced nature will help in handling Trump. Carney is an opponent of Trump in the Liberal Party. He has blamed Trump for the current condition of the country. During a debate last Tuesday, he said that the condition of the country was already bad even before Trump’s threats. Many Canadians are living worse lives. The condition of the country has become worse due to the increase in the number of immigrants.

Carney has been more cautious about his campaigning than his opponents. He has not given a single interview since becoming a PM candidate. He is anti-Trump but has been avoiding saying anything about Trump’s statement of making Canada the 51st state of America and imposing tariffs on the country.

However, recently, after Trump announced the imposition 25% tariff on Canada, he gave a statement-
