Radha Ashtami 2025 : Radha Ashtami is considered very special in Hinduism because Radha Ashtami is the day of Radha Rani’s birth anniversary. According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Radha Ashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month and this time Radha Ashtami will be celebrated on 31 August. This festival is celebrated 15 days after Krishna Janmashtami, which is of great importance for the Vaishnav community and devotees of Lord Krishna. On this day, special prayers and kirtans etc. are performed in temples, which are dedicated to Radha Rani.

How did Radha Rani die?
According to the Puranas, Lord Krishna was born on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksha, while Radha ji was born on the Ashtami of Shukla Paksha. Both were born on the same date, but the Pakshas were different. Krishna ji was born in Krishna Paksha, while Radha ji was born in Shukla Paksha. This is why the festival of Radha Ashtami is celebrated exactly 15 days after Janmashtami.

Radha Rani’s father’s name was Vrishbhanu and mother’s name was Kirti. Radha ji was born in Barsana and was brought up there. She also used to come to Vrindavan to play and her love for Lord Krishna was extremely divine and supernatural. It is said that when Krishna ji used to play his flute, all the gopis, especially Radha ji, used to get completely mesmerized by its sound.

The marriage of Lord Krishna and Radha Rani is not mentioned in most of the Puranas, but it is mentioned in Brahmavaivart Purana that Brahma ji got them married in Bhandirvan. Even today the place where this marriage took place exists in Bhandirvan.

This is how Radha Rani died
After Lord Krishna went to Mathura and then Dwarka, it became difficult to meet Radha ji. Later, they met once during the solar eclipse in Kurukshetra. Finally, Radha Rani, free from the major duties of her life, came to Dwarka, where Krishna ji gave her an honorable position in the palace. But she could not feel the divine love in the royal life of the palace, so she went to live in a village near the forest.

Gradually her health started deteriorating. In her last moments, she calls Krishna ji. Krishna ji plays a sweet tune of the flute for her, reminding her of Vrindavan. While listening to the tune of the flute, Radha Rani leaves her body and her soul merges with Lord Krishna. This story is considered to be the most authentic in the Puranas. This is the divine love story that makes us feel the depth of the sacred relationship of Radha-Krishna.
