SIT Gives Clean Chit to Vantara in Animal Neglect and Smuggling Case; Supreme Court Reviews Report

Supreme Court-Appointed SIT Gives Clean Chit To Vantara: Supreme Court-Appointed SIT Gives Clean Chit To Vantara: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court has given a clean chit to Vantara, the zoological rescue and rehabilitation center located in Jamnagar, Gujarat, owned by Anant Ambani. Vantara had faced serious allegations, including animal neglect, money laundering, and illegal wildlife trafficking, particularly involving elephants. However, the SIT, led by former Supreme Court judge J. Chelameswar, found no evidence to support these claims.

The SIT submitted its report to the Supreme Court last Friday, which was reviewed by a bench of Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice PB Varale on Monday. The bench recorded the findings and confirmed that the investigation team expressed satisfaction with Vantara’s compliance and regulatory practices. The court acknowledged that no violations of law or mismanagement were found during the probe.

Vantara had fully cooperated with the investigation and followed all court directives. The Supreme Court had constituted the SIT in response to growing public and legal scrutiny surrounding the facility. With the SIT now dismissing all allegations, Vantara has been formally cleared, though questions may continue to be raised in the public domain.
