Team India’s new Test captain announced for England tour

Shubman Gill Named India’s New Test Captain: The Indian cricket team is to tour England next month. The tour will start from June 20, in which a five-Test series will be played between India and England. BCCI has announced Team India for this series. This is Team India’s first major tour after veterans like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket. In such a situation, along with the Indian team, the new Test captain has also been announced.

Shubman Gill has been appointed the new captain of the Indian Test team. Gill will be the 37th Test captain of Team India. 25-year-old Gill is the 5th youngest Test captain of Team India. Gill will now have the tough challenge of performing well not only with the bat but also with captaincy on the soil of England. Arshdeep Singh has been selected in the Test team for the first time. Shardul Thakur also came back into the team.

Sudarshan had his first taste of chance. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had played out of their wits during the Australia tour, have been retained. Surprise of surprises, Sai Sudarshan and Karun Nair have also been brought in. Sudarshan has been rewarded for his brilliant batting for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. Karun Nair has returned to Team India after 8 years. He scored 863 runs while playing for Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. This is the reason why the selectors have given him a chance after a long time.

Team India’s England tour schedule

In England, Jasprit Bumrah will be seen leading the pace attack in bowling. Fast bowlers like Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Siraj will also be present to support Bumrah. The responsibility of spin bowling will be on the shoulders of Kuldeep Yadav and Jadeja. It is worth noting that the first Test match of the India vs England Test series will be played in Leeds. With this, the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle will begin. The second Test will be played in Birmingham, the third Test in Lord’s while the fourth Test in Manchester. The last and 5th match of the Test series will be played at Kennington Oval.
